Volunteer Projects

A typical day blends hands-on elephant care, camp upkeep, enrichment projects, guest engagement, and creative content creation to support fundraising. Volunteers work alongside local staff and mahouts, cleaning and maintaining corrals, repairing electric fences, building shelters or water fountains, preparing kuchi (elephant feed), and harvesting elephant grass and browse.

You’ll also help educate visitors about our welfare projects and create dynamic photo, video, and social media content to amplify our mission. Your time, skills, and financial contributions directly improve the lives of elephants and their mahouts — creating lasting impact well beyond your stay as you continue as an elephant ambassador.

During your placement, you’ll observe elephants in their natural habitat, learn about their biology, role in the ecosystem, the challenges facing captive elephants in Asia, human-elephant conflict, and conservation projects in Nepal.

It’s hard work — you’ll be active, outdoors, and hands-on — but you’ll also form strong bonds with staff and fellow volunteers, enjoy local culture, explore Chitwan, and witness elephants simply being elephants in the forest and river. But you’ll also form unforgettable bonds, gain unique skills, and know that your efforts will ripple far into the future for the elephants we care for.
