Namaste and Welcome to our Elephant Welfare Volunteer Project at Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge. Here we steward 12 elephants and the goal of our project is to involve committed volunteers with improving their welfare through husbandry, maintenance and improvement of living areas, and fundraising and education through social media. The volunteer’s labor, project fees and all fundraising money go directly towards supporting and improving the lives of our elephants through Responsible Tourism Trust, a Nepali non profit organization we initiated but now partner with. The weekly fee is 350 GBP or $450 USD.
A typical day of our volunteers blends husbandry, camp maintenance, enrichment development, and guest engagement with creating dynamic social media content which is critical to our fundraising and education efforts. We are seeking candidates with strong skills and/or interest in creating social media content via photography and video editing. In addition, someone with dynamic ideas for fundraising campaigns is preferred. We also welcome volunteers who have construction skills as we build our state of the art elephant facilities.
This position requires physical strength and stamina in high temperatures therefore applicants should be in excellent physical health. The applicant should also be comfortable living in basic accommodations and be flexible with unpredictable changes. We also require a one month minimum commitment with preference for applicants wanting to stay longer. This is so that the volunteer can be a solid and self-sufficient member of the elephant team. You will also find the volunteer experience more meaningful with longer stays.
